26:184

And fearthe One Whocreated youand the generationsthe former

And fear the One Who created you and ˹all˺ earlier peoples.”

26:185

They saidOnlyyou(are) ofthose bewitched

They replied, “You are simply bewitched!

26:186

And notyou(are) excepta manlike usand indeedwe think yousurely (are) ofthe liars

Also, you are only a human being like us, and we think you are indeed a liar.

26:187

Then cause to fallupon usfragmentsofthe skyifyou areofthe truthful

So cause ˹deadly˺ pieces of the sky to fall upon us, if what you say is true.”

26:188

He saidMy Lordknows bestof whatyou do

Shu’aib responded, “My Lord knows best whatever you do.”

26:189

But they denied himso seized them(the) punishment(of the) dayﱫﱬ(of) the shadowIndeed, itwas(the) punishment(of) a DayGreat

So they rejected him, and ˹so˺ were overtaken by the torment of the day of the ˹deadly˺ cloud. That was really a torment of a tremendous day.

26:190

Indeedinthatﱶﱷsurely, is a signbut notaremost of thembelievers

Surely in this is a sign. Yet most of them would not believe.

26:191

And indeedyour Lordﱿsurely, He(is) the All-Mightythe Most Merciful

And your Lord is certainly the Almighty, Most Merciful.

26:192

And indeed, itsurely, is a Revelation(of the) Lord(of) the worlds

This is certainly a revelation from the Lord of all worlds,

26:193

Has brought it downHas brought it downthe Spirit[the] Trustworthy

which the trustworthy spirit ˹Gabriel˺ brought down

26:194

Uponyour heartthat you may beofthe warners

into your heart ˹O Prophet˺—so that you may be one of the warners—

26:195

In languageArabicclear

in a clear Arabic tongue.

26:196

And indeed, itsurely, (is) in(the) Scriptures(of) the former (people)

And it has indeed been ˹foretold˺ in the Scriptures of those before.

26:197

Is it notIs it notto thema signthatknow it(the) scholars(of the) Children(of) Israel

Was it not sufficient proof for the deniers that it has been recognized by the knowledgeable among the Children of Israel?

26:198

And ifWe (had) revealed ittoany(of) the non-Arabs

Had We revealed it to a non-Arab,

26:199

And he (had) recited itto themnotthey wouldin it(be) believers

who would then recite it to the deniers ˹in fluent Arabic˺, still they would not have believed in it!

26:200

ThusWe have inserted itinto(the) hearts(of) the criminals

This is how We allow denial ˹to steep˺ into the hearts of the wicked.

26:201

Notthey will believein ituntilthey seethe punishmentﲿ[the] painful

They will not believe in it until they see the painful punishment,

26:202

And it will come to themsuddenlywhile they(do) notperceive

which will take them by surprise when they least expect ˹it˺.

26:203

Then they will sayArewe(to be) reprieved

Then they will cry, “Can we be allowed more time?”

26:204

So is it for Our punishmentthey wish to hasten

Do they ˹really˺ seek to hasten Our torment?

26:205

Then have you seenifWe let them enjoy(for) years

Imagine ˹O Prophet˺ if We allowed them enjoyment for years,

26:206

Thencomes to themwhatthey werepromised

then there came to them what they had been threatened with:
